The technology of Pro.Tel Modena conquers America

imgThe reason behind the decision by Sunrise Telecom Incorporated, an American multinational leader in the production of instruments for the testing and monitoring of communication networks, to invest in Emilia-Romagna and acquire Pro. Tel of Modena is the intention, as Sunrise pointed out, to “strengthen supply, thanks to the acquisition of a company with state-of-the-art technological production”.

Set up in 1996 from a branch of Ascom Italia, Pro.Tel in just a few years reached levels of excellence in the production of telecommunication tools and in the development of telecommunications applications as sub-contractors. The technology of a protocol analyzer for fixed and mobile networks was the key to its success in attracting the attention of the American group.

“The meeting between Pro.Tel and Sunrise came about thanks to a distributor who worked with both companies – explained Carlo Rossi, Marketing Communication Manager of the Modena company – following the sale of one of our instruments in record times to an American provider (in just one week, compared to an average of 6 months) during which the distributor named our company to Sunrise Incorporated, who then took an interest in us. Although other competitor companies designed and produced protocol analyzers at the time, our instrument was especially innovative as it introduced the concept of simultaneous remote control by multiple users. This, combined with a highly efficient method of presenting collected data, made the product a unique version of its kind.”

Set up in 1991 in San Jose, California with the aim of designing and producing hand-held test instruments for the installation of telecommunications networks, Sunrise Telecom Incorporated was a pioneer in the monitoring of DSL networks and is currently the top supplier worldwide of solutions for testing and monitoring Metropolitan Ethernet Networks and VOIP networks. As well as Pro.Tel, renamed after the takeover as Sunrise Telecom Pro.Tel division, since 1999 the corporate galaxy has also seen the entrance of the Canadian firm Avantron and the American Hukk, both specialised in the production of instruments for cable TV installations.
