Tnt Express Italy: deliveries to pass via Piacenza

imgThe capacity of the Piacenza area to act as collection centre for the goods from a whole five Italian regions. This is the mainstay that has convinced TNT Express, world leader in business-to-business express deliveries to invest 16 million euro in Emilia-Romagna over recent years in the construction of the new Hub Road of Piacenza, the largest pack sorting centre in Italy and one of the top in Europe.

The new hub of Piacenza, set up on a surface area of 22,000 square metres, thanks to state-of-the-art technology and the work of 400 employees, can sort up to 51 million packs per year, thus able to offer the solution to meeting the increasing demands and volumes of traffic over the past years experienced by TNT.

“The area of Piacenza has been identified as the ideal place to set up the structure, due to its high concentration of production and its location as a natural crossroads for communication and transport in Italy” explained Christian Drenthen, managing director of TNT Express Italy.“Express transport is an added value of the Country system – continued Drenthen –and business competition nowadays is obtained from quality, also meant as the ability to reach global markets before competitors.Systems such as this one, at the cutting edge for the technologies used and the strategic location at the junction of infrastructures of Northern Italy, provide a solution to ease the build-up of traffic on the main roadways around large production centres such as Milan”.

Founded in Australia and acquired in 1996 by KPN, the company owning the Dutch Post and Telecommunications, TNT now boasts 42,000 employees and delivers 3.5 million packs, documents and parcels weekly, in over 200 countries worldwide thanks to a network of almost 900 including branches, hubs and sorting centres. The company arrived in Italy in 1985 thanks to the takeover of Traco, the first historical Italian express courier, to then take on the name of TNT Express Italy. The company now employs around 8 thousand in this country, including direct and indirect employees and makes an average of over 160,000 deliveries per day.
