Crown, from Modena, spray cans for the whole world

imgA compact and highly efficient organisation structure, well defined work programming that  applies lean methodology, allowing products to be rapidly delivered in various parts of Europe. These are the characteristics that have made Crown Aerosols Italy at Spilamberto, in the province of Modena, a fundamental component of the great American multinational Crown Cork, operating in the sector of metal packaging for food and non-food products.

The company at Spilamberto was founded in 1953 by Vittorio Brebbia, who decided to set up his own business in a basement where he started to produce tins for shoe polish and brilliantine. This small activity soon grew and in 1980 the company was sold to Metalbox, a multinational in the packaging sector. It was taken over by Crown Cork & Seal in 1996 and the company became part of the American giant. Today Crown Aerosols Italy has 200 employees and in 2008 it reached a turnover of more than 52 million euros. It is part of the multinational’s Aerosols division and produces spray cans for various types of products, from whipped cream to shaving foam and insecticides. “The production cycle - explains the managing director, Marco Padovani - ranges from the study and creation of the graphics requested by the customer for the aerosol, through painting and printing, to the realisation of the container with the assembly of the body and components, using automatic processes”.

Itis a Company that believes in getting things done, applying enthusiasm and common sense as well as a strong safety policy on the work place: “The running of the company involves not only the management but the whole staff, to make everyone aware and responsible for safety matters,” explains Padovani. Among its various activities the company has also launched the Stop project, thanks to which all employees periodically move to departments other than their own to see how the work is being done and to report any safety problems. The commitment to safety, in which Crown at Spilamberto is a strong believer, earned it a special mention at the third edition of the Award for  Business Responsibility (promoted by the Province of Modena) in the category “Work quality and relations with employees”.
