The Japanese multinational company invested in the province of Modena, an area hit by the earthquake, with the support of the regional government. The construction works started the 16th of June 2014. About 500 people will be employed, mostly young engineers and graduates. Private partners and university research centers will work in synergy. Topcon will receive about 505 thousand euro from the Region as co-financing of R&D activities.

Philip Morris International (PMI) announced a 500 million Euros greenfield investment. The new manufacturing facility will be established in Crespellano, in the province of Bologna. Construction is estimated to last two years. Once the facility will be fully operational, it will employ up to 600 people.
