Baxter provides a broad portfolio of products in the medical sector and in the field of renal therapies, both in hospital and home settings. The USA Group in Italy has approximately 1,800 employees. In 2013, the acquisition of the Swedish company Gambro AB was completed worldwide. The Medolla production plant – in the province of Modena - represents one of the reference centers for the Research & Development and the production of Dialysis Systems. The plant is part of the Mirandola Biomedical District.
Since its establishment, the site has been specialized in the production of everything necessary for a dialysis treatment, from equipment capable of replacing the natural purification capacity of the kidneys, to filters, to blood lines, representing for years the only Italian company able to supply hospitals with these devices. The factory is still located where it was built in 1964 and has been growing over the years to its current size.
In 2018 the multinational selected the Medolla site for the creation of a global center of excellence for the production of technologically advanced medical devices for renal therapies. The investment of 10 million euros, made from 2018 to 2020, led to the hiring of 20 new units and included a training and retraining plan for the staff.
