The Emilia-Romagna Data Valley is increasingly a center of international excellence: the Council of the United Nations University (UNU) has accepted the proposal of the Emilia-Romagna Region, presented together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 2020,  to establish at the Bologna Technopole a new institute of the United Nations University dedicated to Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for the Management of Human Habitat Change - IBAHC.

This news comes after the inauguration of the Leonardo supercomputer, one of the most powerful in the world, hosted in the same Technopole where we also find: the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium Weather Forecasts) data centre, the new INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics) Tier-1 data centre, along with the Competence Center Industry 4.0 BI-REX, the bio-banks of the Rizzoli Institute of Bologna, the Regional Agency for meteo forecasts, environmental protection and energy ARPAE Emilia-Romagna, ENEA - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development. The partnership of the hub includes CMCC - Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change and ITALIAMETEO (weather forecast). Moreover, the digital hub carries out strong collaboration with the regional universities, LEPIDA - the broadband network of the regional public administrations and with innovative companies. The "Tecnopolo Manifattura – Data Valley Hub" is therefore confirmed as a reference point for research, science, artificial intelligence and big data.
